About 10% of HomeSharing's annual budget comes from the United Way. Each year the United Way asks what HomeSharing is doing to raise funding to meet the budget. They especially ask whether we have support from people in the community. 

Who comes to HomeSharing for help?

People come to HomeSharing when they don't have enough money to meet the high cost of living in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties or, if they need additional income or assistance around the house. We also help people who are in-transition. These are people who need comfortable, affordable housing for a limited time (we generally require a minimum commitment of three months). This includes recently separated husbands or wives, as well as corporate employees working in this area for a limited time (for example: summer interns or, contract employees tired of motel living).

Recently, people coming to HomeSharing include highly educated individuals whose companies have downsized and laid them off. Suddenly faced with serious financial difficulties, they don't know what help is available. HomeSharing not only helps find comfortable, affordable housing, but also helps them negotiate the social service system.
